Volcan Gold Mine Project EIA

BGC provides a wide range of strategic environmental services related to the planning, development, operation and closure of sites and facilities.  These multidisciplinary services combine our expertise in applied earth sciences, geotechnical and hydrotechnical engineering, hydrogeology and risk assessment.

  • Strategies for Investment Projects

BGC supports corporate decision makers in the development of strategy for the environmental and social aspects of investment projects based on a conceptual risk analysis in the early stage of a project. The strategy takes into account legal, social, environmental and reputational risks faced by the project, and incorporates the concept of building long-term relationships between the facility and its various stakeholders. BGC also provides action plans and programs for the various phases of the enterprise, and offers supervision of the implementation plans.

  • Environmental Impact Studies

BGC provides a wide range of strategic environmental services related to the planning, development, operation and closure of sites and facilities.  These multidisciplinary services combine our expertise in applied earth sciences, geotechnical and hydrotechnical engineering, hydrogeology and risk assessment.

Comprehensive independent review of a project’s EIA is critical to protecting the project proponent in the international investment market, as well as in the public arena of environmental evaluation.  For these purposes, BGC evaluates EIA’s with an internally developed methodology based on national regulatory requirements and international standards of environmental assessment.

  • Environmental Sections for Feasibility Studies

BGC offers the direction, compilation and review of chapters of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for mining and energy projects, specifically in areas such as closure plans, water management plans and environmental assessments.  We aim to provide creative solutions that address project engineering requirements while meeting corporate expectations.

  • Baseline Studies and Alternatives Analysis

BGC carries out baseline studies in its core competencies of geology, geochemistry, geomorphology, geohazards, glaciology, hydrology and hydrogeology, with a view to providing necessary and relevant information for environmental impact assessment and for alternatives analysis.

  • Environmental Compliance Audits

BGC provides support for environmental and social compliance management and corresponding audits for operations.  The primary objective of this type of service is to identify problems that could jeopardize a project’s operations or affect its operational license, based on an inventory of formal environmental obligations and commitments.

  • Geo-environmental Engineering

BGC offers comprehensive services in geo-environmental engineering and site management, ranging from initial site characterization to remedial action design, implementation, and post-implementation monitoring and risk management.  We have extensive experience serving as a client liaison to regulatory agencies, and developing and implementing strategies to lead projects throughout complicated regulatory processes.  We apply our geo-environmental services both in support of larger resource development projects and in a stand-alone manner to address existing environmental issues.

BGC staff have investigated and addressed contamination in all media: soils, sediments, groundwater, surface water, and air.  Contaminants present at addressed sites have included metals, volatile organic compounds, and other organic compounds such as pesticides, PCBs and petroleum derivatives.  Our highly experienced professionals have studied abandoned waste sites, landfills, hazardous waste disposal facilities, mine sites, manufacturing and industrial complexes, and military bases.  These sites range in size from under five acres to over 75 square kilometers.

BGC’s successful approaches have ranged from remediation – both through ex-situ and in-situ approaches – to environmental risk management through application of engineered and administrative controls.  The appropriate point on this remedial spectrum is determined based on our clients’ needs for use or disposition of the site, including cost-benefit analyses where needed to identify the optimal approach.  In addition, BGC has experience in geo-environmental monitoring for impacted sites through a variety of instrumentation, sampling and analytical testing.

  • Mine Closure Planning & Environmental Remediation Liabilities

BGC develops and implements remediation and closure plans of mine facilities and exploration activities.  We work with the client from the definition of objectives through to the planning and subsequent implementation of closure tasks.  Our multidisciplinary team combines expertise in geotechnical stability, water management, acid rock drainage and environmental liabilities associated with contaminated ground and groundwater.  Our expertise also includes cost estimating and assessment of remediation liabilities. In addition, BGC works with allied professionals in related disciplines to address other environmental aspects affecting soils, vegetation, wildlife and cultural resources.
