The Role

BGC is looking for a Data Management Specialist to help the company with the ever-growing data it manages for clients, and as part of delivering engineering services and solutions. The Data Management Specialist will be involved in streamlining data management practices for existing systems, and positioning BGC to benefit from new opportunities through better data insights.

Responsibilities

  • Develop data management plans and data architectures for engineering and geoscience software systems and databases
  • Develop and execute a data strategy for engineering-related data, particularly for data related to geotechnical work and geospatial software applications

Requirements

  • 5 – 10 years of work experience at an Engineering or Geoscience organization/division or equivalent
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or Geoscience would be ideal
  • A demonstrated passion for data, data management and data stewardship
  • Experience designing databases and database schemas
  • Experience with data architecture and data mapping in the context of system integration
  • Experience with data related to geotechnical instrumentation, boreholes, time-series data (e.g. gauges, atmospheric data) would be preferred
  • Experience with the integration of structured and unstructured data would be an asset
  • Experience with data visualization techniques and solutions would be an asset
  • Ownership and initiative, natural self-starter; ability to fully own large areas of responsibility
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong focus on direct and open communication
  • Experience working in or awareness of the field of applied earth science is an asset
