The Role

BGC is looking for a Health & Safety Specialist to support a dynamic group of earth science engineers and create a safe work environment for all employees and contractors. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape BGC’s Health & Safety (H&S) Management System by developing new programs and procedures to align with regulatory and client requirements.

Reporting to the Senior H&S Coordinator, and working out of our Vancouver Head Office, the successful candidate will provide their safety expertise and guidance while practicing our values of One Team, Excellence, Curiosity, Common Sense, and Clarity


  • Update existing and develop new H&S policies, procedures and programs in accordance with client requirements, legislation and industry best practices
  • Support the Vancouver Head-office team with H&S advise, processes, programs and tools
  • Collaborate with the Vancouver H&S committee members in facilitating monthly H&S meetings
  • Key member of the company-wide H&S committee
  • Maintain safety statistics and generate reports and presentations
  • Maintain WCB/WSIB claims and clearance letters
  • Maintain compliance websites such as ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, Cognibox and Avetta
  • Support improvements to BGC’s Contractor Management Program
  • Travel requirements to other offices and field visits less than 20%
  • Additional duties as required


  • Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor Degree in the Occupational Health Safety or Hygiene (or related) field
  • 8+ years of experience with successful, hands-on development of H&S programs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Working knowledge of provincial and other relevant WCB and OH&S legislation
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify deficiencies and offer creative solutions
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Develop strong relationships with employees to help define and achieve our H&S goals
  • US or international H&S program and legislation experience is an asset
