About the Role

BGC Engineering is seeking an Instrumentation Field Technician to support BGC staff with installation, maintenance, and support of field instruments for geotechnical, mining, pipelines, and various other applications.  The ideal candidate will have experience with the installation of a variety of instruments such as piezometers, inclinometers, SAAs, strain gauges, etc., and particular experience with the related telemetry and data logging setups for these instruments.  This role includes:

  • Working with BGC’s engineers, geoscientists, and other staff to develop instrumentation and monitoring solutions for BGC’s clients
  • On site installation, configuration, and service of geotechnical instruments
  • Configuration of data logging and telemetry (cellular, satellite, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting instrument and data issues
  • Programming and setup of visualization software for instruments and data loggers
  • Some travel of limited duration to field locations, many of which are remote

About You

  • 2+ years of relevant experience with geotechnical instrumentation or equivalent
  • Experience working with instrument data and data loggers preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with data visualization software for instrumentation is an asset
  • Programming experience is an asset
  • Mechanically minded, particularly with respect to instrument installations, enclosures, etc.
  • Knowledge of instrument and data trends, e.g. cloud-based solutions
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Ability and desire to travel to locations anywhere in North America


BGC’s Vancouver office is preferred as a home base, however, BGC has offices in various Canadian cities and in Colorado which may be considered.
