The Role

BGC is looking for an Intermediate to Senior Full Stack Developer to work in our Vancouver, BC office. In this role you will be working with alongside world class engineers and geoscientists as a part of BGC’s talented software development team.

The successful applicant will help make the world a safer place by applying their software development knowledge to build robust applications that monitor potential geological hazards and risks in real-time. The candidate will have the opportunity to conquer unique challenges developing web applications using a state of the art geographical information system with cloud infrastructures.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop safety critical databases and applications for managing and analyzing earth sciences data
  • Maintain existing databases and applications that notifies clients of significant climate or geological events
  • Collaborate with the team on the architectural design of applications, features, and solutions
  • Create concise and useful documentation in Confluence or in code
  • Help refine User Stories by gathering requirements from stakeholders
  • Develop software using best in class tools and industry best practices
  • Be responsible for testing software you've written manually and through automation scripts
  • Take part in releasing software into production
  • Plan and manage small to medium sized projects
  • Mentor team members on industry standard techniques, concepts, and patterns
  • Stay curious and keep an open mind for new technologies and ideas

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant software development experience
  • Experience with programming in C#, Java, or equivalent
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Advanced knowledge and experience working with database environments, resources, and methodologies
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge in one or more database systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.
  • Exceptional communications skills in English, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot, resolve complex issues, and recommend innovative solutions
  • Love to be challenged and have the willingness to adapt to future technology
  • Experience with cloud technologies (Azure or AWS) is an asset
  • Experience with NoSQL databases is an asset
