About the Role

BGC is seeking a motivated person to lead our remote geotechnical instrumentation services; supporting BGC’s project teams and clients in the mining, oil sands, transportation and pipeline industries. The ideal candidate will have experience in the installation of geotechnical instruments and related data logger and telemetry systems to transfer data back to the office. The ideal candidate will also have a strong desire to build, support and lead a team of technologists, geoscientists, and engineers to provide innovative and common-sense solutions for BGC’s project and client needs.

This role includes:

  • Working with BGC’s project teams to plan, design, install and operate instrumentation and telemetry systems for BGC’s clients
  • Managing and coordinating a team of 1 to 3 technicians, geoscientists, and / or engineers to install and configure the planned systems and to setup data management and standard reports for each type of installation and project
  • Writing appropriate documentation for the installed systems and keeping records for the instruments, related hardware, and maintenance history of the systems
  • Developing, maintaining and troubleshooting the data management systems to support the instrumentation and telemetry systems, with assistance from BGC software development team
  • Preparing training and resource materials related to instrumentation for BGC staff and clients
  • Some travel of limited duration to field locations and other BGC offices to support project teams/clients

About You

  • 5+ years of experience in planning, coordinating, and executing of instrumentation field work and documenting the results in as-built / record reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and comfort working in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to execute project tasks on time and budget
  • Working knowledge of data management and visualization systems for geotechnical data
  • 2+ years of experience with data loggers and remote cellular / satellite data transfer systems preferred
  • Programming of common telemetry and visualization software experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of emerging instrumentation technology and data trends
  • Possession of valid driver’s license
  • Ability and desire to travel to locations in North America
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer, Geoscientist, or Technologist


BGC’s Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton or Kamloops office is preferred as a home base; however, BGC has offices in various Canadian cities and in Colorado which may be considered.
